About Us

For over 100 years, “The Ballroom” has been Wellington’s Premier Pool and Snooker lounge, offering a relaxed social environment in the heart of Courtenay Place’s entertainment area.

We aim to provide a memorable experience for groups of all sizes with a flexible range of services to cater for entry-level players, pool sharks, or those simply preferring to relax in our lounge areas.

Unique heritage with long history

The facility was opened in 1921 by Percy Tremaine who was expanding his network of pool & snooker rooms from his first venues in Willis Street and Island Bay.

There’s been a lot of keen activity since then – as recorded in the Evening Post in 1940 with snooker and billiards championship draws and dramatic battle accounts of NZ champions.

Its changed hands and names a few times, but still continues the classic tradition.

Fully refurbished

“The Ballroom” had a fresh makeover in 2016 with newly covered tables, cues, and room décor – so come in and make the most of it.

• 11.30am – late: Monday – Saturday
• 12 noon – late: Sunday
